Not too long ago, a friend asked, "What inspires your writing?" To which I responded: Culture, social justice, love (in its expanse and the sacrifice therein), the God idea, faith, water, the spine. By which I meant, I'm a woman finding language and the limitless potential of beauty in the "profane" and the profound. That my work is consumed with capturing black kindred, the spirit by all its many names, in sensuality punctuated with divinity and what that means for black women trying to live (and love) freely. I'm in conversation with the human potential to be & create a plane - the here now and the thereafter - that limits suffering. But mostly, I write because it is where I find breath and where I hope you too breathe, with me.
